Presented by the Hands Four Dancers of Ithaca Join HFDI for a savory evening of dancing with local favorites Sister Haggis (Eileen Kalfass and Jane Knoeck), calling by Ithaca’s own Katy
Eileen and Jane have been playing contra dances together for over 15 years. They’ve toured nationally, playing dance camps and festival weekends as Sister Haggis and with other ensembles including Seaglass, Continental Drift, and the Groovemongers. Their recordings, both together and with other ensembles include “Crossing Bridges,” “Fresh Wares” and “Smooth Sailing”. Their sound features Eileen’s rich fiddle tone and lilting melodies and Jane’s driving piano rhythms in a lively mix of modern and traditional contra tunes.
Ithaca-based caller Katy Heine has been leading contras and community dances in the Finger Lakes region and beyond for more than 30 years. She’s known for her clear teaching style and for her large repertoire of fun and flowing dances. Whether the hall’s full of experienced dancers or first-timers, they’re sure to have a great time at one of Katy’s dances!
