Music Classes
Ithaca Children & Youth Chorus
The Ithaca Children & Youth Chorus (ICYC) strives to instill a life-long love of music as the area’s only exclusive children’s choral program. ICYC provides an inclusive and complete choral experience for young singers through culturally diverse repertoire from varied traditions.

Prelude
Tuesdays 4:00-5:00pm
Prelude is the beginning ICYC ensemble, for singers in grades K-2nd, and is centered on healthy singing and celebrating the joy of music.

Wednesdays 4:00-5:00pm
In Intermezzo, singers in grades 3rd-5th build upon basic music skills with an emphasis on healthy singing, expression, rehearsal and performance technique, and movement, in a fun supportive environment.

Chorale
Wednesdays 5:00-6:15pm
Chorale offers more advanced instruction in choral singing for youth in grades 6th-12th. In addition to a greater focus on musical literacy the repertoire in this ensemble expands to include additional musical styles, and more complex rhythms and harmonies, while centering the joy and community that comes from being a part of a choral ensemble.

Audio Production with Ableton
Thursdays 5:00-6:00pm • Taught by Dezmond Garnetto
Perfect for beginners, the course focuses on creative workflow, beat-making, and building complete tracks while developing a solid foundation in modern music production. Ableton Live and a laptop is required for this class.

DJ Workshop
Saturday, 5/9 or 6/20, 12:00-2:00pm • Taught by Dezmond Garnetto
Students will explore the basics of mixing music, using equipment, and developing their own unique style. The workshop encourages experimentation, active listening, and an appreciation for a wide range of musical genres. No prior experience is required
Playing Slow & Lovely Tunes on Your Mandolin
Fridays 2:45-4:15pm, 4/17-5/8 • Taught by Rick Manning
We will learn tunes from the Scottish, Scandinavian and French Canadian traditions along with modern tunes. We will learn melody and chords for rhythm accompaniment for each tune and explore harmony, producing good tone, and perhaps some simple improvisation.
Note: This class is for mandolin players who are able to play melodies, scales and chords in the keys of D, G, A and/or C. Fiddlers or violinists who want to explore the mandolin would be well suited for this class
The CSMA Flute Choir – Ages 10-18
Saturdays 1:00-2:00pm, 5/2-6/13 (no class 5/23) • Taught by Joyce Catalfano
Bring your flute and friends to a warm, caring environment where “playing well with others” is the goal. Learn the basic skills of chamber music performance and study the vast repertoire for flute choir. You’ll be glad you did!

The CSMA Adult Flute Choir – Ages 18+

Join a welcoming and supportive flute ensemble designed for adult musicians who enjoy collaborative music-making. This group focuses on developing ensemble skills, refining technique, and exploring the rich and diverse repertoire written for flute choir. Whether you are returning to your instrument or looking to grow as an ensemble player, you will find a rewarding and engaging musical experience.
Auditioning Successfully Workshop for Woodwinds
Sat, 6/20 1:00-3:00pm • Taught by Joyce Catalfano
A two hour woodwind workshop given by Joyce Catalfano will concentrate on the three ppp’s of taking an audition: 1) How to Practice 2) How to Perform and 3) How to Prevail.

Middle School Concert Band

This ensemble aims to develop instrument proficiency, music reading, and ensemble skills and allows band students to perform with their peers. Grades 5-8.

Fundamentales of Latin Dance

Belly Dancing

Drawing Portraits
Tuesdays 3:30-5:30pm, 4/7-5/12 • Instructed by Jessica Warner
In this course, students will concentrate solely on the portrait. Working with a live model to learn basic portrait drawing strategies and techniques, we will explore the anatomical and structural forms of the head and its features while developing drawing skills and exploring its expressive potential.

Intro to Printmaking – Tuesday Class

Mix, Make, Imagine!

This art class, for kids ages 7-10, is designed to encourage problem-solving, inspire creative thinking, and provide children with a joyful space to explore and enjoy art. Through observing, creating, and reflecting on artworks, students will develop visual literacy and a deeper understanding of artistic expression.
Figure Drawing
Tuesdays 3:30-5:30pm, 5/19-6/23 • Taught by Jessica Warner
This course centers on the study of the human figure. Working from a live model, students will learn foundational drawing strategies and techniques while exploring the anatomical structure and underlying forms of the body. Through careful observation and guided practice, participants will strengthen their technical skills and develop a deeper understanding of the figure’s expressive possibilities.

This is not a color theory class, instead it is an exploration of what colors do as they act and interact. Our goals include refining perceptual skills, vocabulary and expressive fluency, and also to have fun!

Oil Painting

Intermediate Oil Painting – Breaking the Rules

This class requires some previous experience with oil painting. Explore contemporary approaches to painting with an emphasis on expanded approach to painting what you see through close observation along with abstraction. Students will develop skills and personal voice while challenging habits and assumptions.

Oil Pastels for Kids

Teen Acting Project

3-Day Practical Movie Effects Workshop for Kids

This hands-on workshop introduces students to classic filmmaking tricks and practical effects through fun, self-contained activities. Each workshop focuses on a single technique and results in a short film or physical creation that students can take home. Ages 6-12
3-Day Storytelling in Movies Workshop for Kids
5/19, 5/20, 5/21, 4:15-6:15pm • Taught by Alaric Rocha
Through guided discussion and creative play, students will develop original stories centered around space travel and/or time travel. They will design and build their own spacecraft using LEGO bricks or other craft materials (or use a shared “time machine”), then bring their stories to life by filming themselves and placing their characters inside their imagined worlds using green screen techniques. Ages 6-12
