Muhamed Kafedzic – Muha 無派 | Hanami 花見 (Flower Viewing)

Apr 5, 2023

On view: April 7 – May 26, 2023

Hanami is a Japanese tradition of flower (blossom) viewing during springtime. In this case, it is an invitation to view a selection of Muha´s works from 2009-2022 showing the artist´s views of Ukiyo-e, reinterpretations of art masterpieces, and experiments with traditional painting and new media. The exhibition, on view through May 26, will be accompanied by guest works of local artists Leslie Ihde, Domenica Brockman, Charlotte Ghiorse, and Lindsey Glover.

Muha (b. 1977) is a Bosnian artist temporarily living in Ithaca. His artistic identity is based on the Japanese Ukiyo-e and American Pop Art traditions, interwoven and interpreted in a hybrid and global key. By refusing traditional, local artistic styles and themes, he aims to challenge stereotyped ethnic and national images of an artist from post-war Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to create an identity that opens transnational and pop cultural connections. He has exhibited and held workshops on street art and comics in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, Germany, Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia, Belgium, and Japan. Learn more at https://muhaonline.com/
