The Bread & Puppet Theater is excited to announce that the company’s 61st year will commence with a tour traversing the Northeast and Eastern Seaboard for a brand-new play: The Hope Principle Show: Citizens’ Shame and Hope in the Time of Genocide. Featuring a flock of disaster ravens and hope principle caribou and exorcism rites for the genociders.”
The tour also includes cities from Rutland, VT to Washington, DC, with the full tour schedule available at BreadAndPuppet.org/Tour. “Qui Sommes Nous?”, translated, “Who Are We?” in French, is the question that sits at the epitome of all human mysteries. Where do we come from? What is our purpose? For millennia, religion, philosophy and science have ventured to answer this enigma without success. This compilation of art is an attempt to process this riddle using the manipulation of design, sound, language, photography, and any other media that serve in this exploration.
Visit the show at CSMA, 330 East State Street, about a block away from the Commons, May 3 – May 31. Gallery Night, debuts May 3 from 5:00-8:00 pm, with an artist talk starting at 6:30 pm.

In Japanese, Tagasode translates to “whose sleeves?” a phrase used in classical love poetry to evoke the memory of a woman through her empty kimono. For this exhibition, Kumi Korf gathered nine women artists, sent them kimonos and invited them to create artwork with the garments as the catalyst. Though the kimono itself seems a precious work of art, the prompt was to “be free”; an invitation to adventure, playful chaos, a brave step into the unknown.
