Music Classes
Ithaca Children & Youth Chorus
The Ithaca Children & Youth Chorus (ICYC) strives to instill a life-long love of music as the area’s only exclusive children’s choral program. ICYC provides an inclusive and complete choral experience for young singers through culturally diverse repertoire from varied traditions.

Prelude
Tuesdays 5:00-6:00pm
Prelude is the beginning ICYC ensemble, for singers in grades K-2nd, and is centered on healthy singing and celebrating the joy of music.

In Intermezzo, singers in grades 3rd-5th build upon basic music skills with an emphasis on healthy singing, expression, rehearsal and performance technique, and movement, in a fun supportive environment.

Chorale
Wednesdays 5:00-6:15pm
Chorale offers more advanced instruction in choral singing for youth in grades 6th-12th. In addition to a greater focus on musical literacy the repertoire in this ensemble expands to include additional musical styles, and more complex rhythms and harmonies, while centering the joy and community that comes from being a part of a choral ensemble.

Musical Improvisation with Hank Roberts

Learn basic concepts in reading music, making scales, making chords, and how chords relate to one another. This class is ideal for beginning musicians who wish to know more about what it is they’re playing, as well as for listeners who wish to expand their musical perception.

Graphic Notation: A Visual Approach to Music Composition and Improv
Thursdays 6:30-7:30pm, 9/18-12/11 • Taught by Lydia Goedert
Graphic notation is a contemporary approach to music making that treats visual art as the score for musicians to follow. Each week, the class will consist of a lecture followed by group music making from a visual score. Students will gain an appreciation for multimedia art that may inspire their own creative processes. Both musicians and visual artists are encouraged to join! All levels of musicianship are welcome.

RainbowBrain: Kids Creativity Club!

Making Your Mark: Design Is Everywhere

This is a fun, experimental workshop using a variety of media both conventional and non-conventional. Hone your skill in drawing and painting. Use your imagination and ingenuity in solving design and compositional problems that bridge the gap between representation and abstraction.

Violin, Viola, & Cello Workshop: Using Your Tuning Pegs

The learning curve involved with tuning stringed instruments can be intimidating. We will examine how friction tuning pegs work on the violin, viola, and cello, how to care for them, and how to use them through hands-on practice.

In this workshop we will learn how to take traditional myths, fairy tales, folk tales and epics from the page into our voices so as to perform them for others. Special attention will be given to voice, imagination, and the use of the body.
Autumn Still Life Watercolor Workshop

In this workshop, participants will explore fundamental painting techniques while painting autumn still life scenes. We will learn some basics through various exercises, then dive into still life painting.
Violin, Viola, & Cello Workshop: Getting to Know Your Instrument

This workshop is designed to give an overview of the history and construction of violin family instruments. There will be a practical focus on common repair problems, causes, and how to decide when an instrument should be taken to a luthier. The hope is to give players, teachers, and enthusiasts a deeper understanding of their most consistent musical partner.
