The Eclectic Work of JOYCE STILLMAN-myers

Jun 28, 2022

On View July 1 – August 26

Joyce started making art seriously in the early 1970’s. She soon developed a super-realistic style, which she exhibited in major galleries in NYC and internationally. Her paintings of Christmas ornaments won international awards and were included in the Museum of Modern Art’s gift shop collection.

After leaving NYC and its Art World for the serenity of the Finger Lakes region, Joyce felt free to experiment beyond her super-realism and other signature styles. Different subjects required different approaches, so Joyce chose whatever best expressed her ideas and suited her own enjoyment. For years, she also taught painting and drawing to elementary school and college students, creating still-lifes to use with her students. Some of her work included in this show, her second solo exhibition at CSMA, were created for that purpose. This exhibition is not a retrospective, but rather offers rare selections from available works spanning the past fifty years showcasing Joyce’s eclectic artistic temperament.
