For the past four years, I have been teaching in multiple capacities–weekly with beginners at the Ukrainian Club in Elmira, NY; weekly at Tompkins County Mental Health as part of a movement-based therapy workshop; weekly at The Jenkins Center for Hope and Recovery, where I worked with adults with severe and persistent mental illness using movement as therapeutic recreation; as part of the Ithaca Freeskool, and for independent events and collaborations (Fairy Festivals, Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance, summer camps, The New York State Fair). I have had participants as young as 2 and as old as 100; I believe in the accessibility of dance spanning all generations, abilities, orientations, colors, creeds, etc.
I originally gained interest in Belly Dance and began taking classes at The CSMA, and then began performing with the belly dancing troupe Mirage. We’ve done the Ithaca Festival for years now, Wizarding Weekend, Apple Fest, you name it . . . not to mention touring the nursing homes of Upstate NY and Northern PA and putting on performances for the residents!
I am passionate about dance for mental health and wellness as well as physical strength, confidence, community, and joy, and it would be an honor to work with you.
