In this class for beginners, students will learn watercolor techniques and gain confidence with the medium through painting a variety of subjects. Thy will learn how to use color, when to choose wet-into-wet or wet-into-dry painting for edges and other effects, and how to convey light and shadow. There will be a specific painting project in each class, primarily still life paintings or working from photographs, with one session devoted to landscapes and one to a greeting card image with florals. In addition to realist studies, illustration and experimental techniques will be introduced with reference to contemporary watercolorists. Some drawing experience helpful but not required.
