In this class students will learn that visual art is a language that can be broken down into discrete elements which form the core of expression and are used together to create cohesive compositions, using the Gestalt theory of design. A series of simple exercises in black and white using a variety of media will teach students how to effectively use the core elements of art to create unified compositions. This course is strongly recommended as a prerequisite to Intro to Drawing or Painting. Note: Design 2: Color Theory will be offered in a later term. A materials list is available through the office.
