Brenda has been a part of the local community for over 25 years, leading art experiences at music, art and yoga festivals, CSMA, public schools, childcare centers, and summer camps. She received her BA in Art Education from Ithaca College in 2008, and is a certified N.Y.S Visual Arts educator. She enjoyed being the visual arts specialist for grades Pre-K through third at Dryden and Cassavant Elementary Schools for over eight years. There, she developed an upper elementary art club based on sustainability practices and community service projects. She holds a Masters in Education degree from Concordia University in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education. Her formal ┬átraining also includes graduate coursework in Art Education from SUNY New Paltz achieving a masters level in fine oil painting, drawing, and art history. She has just recently received recognition of her work with youth by being nominated to receive one of the “40 Caring Adults” awards by Tompkins County Youth Services. She is dedicated to raising the voices of youth through their art, and providing opportunities to develop one’s creative individuality. Her personal passion presently lies in facilitating art experiences that invite the otherwise inactive “viewer” to become a participant in the creation of their own art experience; she is excited by participatory art and active community engagement.
